𝗠𝗮𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗮 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗨𝗽𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗰 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗱

His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama has commissioned a newly constructed Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, restoring critical cardiac services and introducing advanced capacity for specialised heart care in Ghana.
The facility, developed under the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, replaces the previous unit, destroyed by fire in March 2025, and introduces advanced technology for diagnosing and treating complex cardiovascular conditions.
He highlighted the role of the Free Primary Healthcare Programme and the Ghana Medical Trust Fund in expanding access to care, stressing that no Ghanaian should be denied life-saving treatment due to financial constraints.
The President also announced plans to expand similar specialised centres across the country, including the middle and northern belts, to reduce pressure on Accra-based facilities.
Health Minister Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh in his address noted that the new facility will support early diagnosis, timely intervention, and continuity of care, while also serving as a platform for training specialists and strengthening Ghana’s overall response to cardiovascular conditions.
The commissioning according to him, demonstrates renewed commitment to sustaining healthcare investments through proper maintenance systems and innovative models to prevent equipment breakdowns, ensuring long-term value for the country.
The Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, noted that the facility represents a swift and determined response to the loss of the previous laboratory.
She stressed that beyond replacing what was lost, the new laboratory stands as a symbol of resilience and national commitment to protecting lives, highlighting the Fund’s broader mandate to finance specialized treatment, build infrastructure, and support research to address the rising burden of chronic diseases in Ghana.
